The hazelnuts grown in Selva, mainly of the negreta variety, are of excellent quality. They’re mostly cultivated in the area around the village of Brunyola.
The dairy farms in Selva produce all sorts of dairy products, such as pasteurised milk, cheeses, cottage cheese, yoghurt in various flavours and a variety of ice creams.
The red prawn from Blanes (Aristeus antennatus) is prevalent in the waters of the western Mediterranean and is caught by bottom trawling. It’s a highly prized product in the county, with seven fishing boats in Blanes Port devoted exclusively to this catch.
High quality meat is one of the distinctive features of the gastronomy of La Selva. The fame of many butchers’ establishments stretches beyond the county’s borders.
The county boasts a large number of patisseries and bakeries that make their own cakes and pastries. This is a relatively recent tradition but there are already many establishments in La Selva that have their own special recipes, mostly for nut-based biscuits.
Ratafia is an alcoholic drink obtained by macerating various ingredients in distilled spirits for 40 days in the open air.
Various brands of craft beer are produced in the county and a number of craft beer fairs and festivals are also held in the area, which are very popular with enthusiasts of the drink.
