The Selva Bicycle Touring Network is a great way to travel around the county and explore its many towns and villages. The network comprises forest tracks, greenways and paths or roads with light traffic. Design your own cycling route and discover the region at your own pace.
There are more than 400 km of cycle paths on which to explore the contrasting landscapes of Selva: coast, plains and mountains. Selva is the perfect place for bicycle touring thanks to the pleasant climate it enjoys almost all year round. You’ll find paths of varying difficulty (the easiest ones are on the plains; the most demanding ones are in the mountains) and a wide range of services.
Although the paths of the network aren’t exclusively for cyclists (except in sections with traffic segregation such as the Carrilet Greenway), traffic is always of low intensity. The network interconnects all the population centres of the county, along forest tracks, local roads, dirt roads, etc., all of which are signposted and well maintained.
You’ll observe small yellow plaques with directional arrows indicating that you’re on the network. You may occasionally find that the bicycle touring network is shared with the hiking network. This will be indicated on the plaques, but you’ll always see a bicycle and the word cicloturisme (bicycle touring).
To choose which destination to head for, you’ll find track signs at the main intersections of the network that complement the information on the small plaques, as well as indicating the directions and distances to the nearest towns or places of interest.
Plan your route well before setting out. Find out about routes beforehand and choose one that matches your level of fitness and expertise: don’t overestimate your abilities.
Remember to observe all road safety precautions when cycling, always giving way to pedestrians and obeying the rules of the road.
Make sure you bring all the necessary equipment: helmet, the right footwear, sunscreen, etc.
Always carry water to stay hydrated and have something to eat.
Check the weather forecast before you set out and don’t expose yourself to adverse weather conditions.
