El Ranxo de Vidreres
In terms of scale and tradition, this communal feast of traditional escudella stew staged in Vidreres at Carnival time is one of the most significant in the country.
The celebration involves the whole village: butchers, farmers and shopkeepers provide such produce as white and black botifarra sausage, vegetables and chickpeas.
The cooking detail do the honours while the festival committee work hard to ensure everything runs smoothly.
The La Selva town needs around thirty pots holding 100 litres each to produce enough escudella on Ranxo day, which is always held on Carnival Tuesday, at around two or three in the afternoon in the famous Plaça de l’Oliva Square.
