Riells i Viabrea
Riells i Viabrea is the last town in the county of La Selva before the border with the county of Vallès Oriental. This municipality is located in an unsurpassable setting within the Montseny Natural Park and crossed by the Riells Stream, one of the tributaries of the Tordera River.
Riells i Viabrea is a municipality with a vertical layout, comprising a series of housing developments and residential districts. Plaça Can Salvà, located in the town centre, is named after the 19th-century manor house that stands there. Can Salvà comprises a ground floor, upper floor and attic and is now the town hall.
The most important architectural landmark of Riells i Viabrea is the Church of Sant Martí de Riells del Montseny. This 12th-century Romanesque building is located in the northern part of the municipality. With a simple architectural style, its most noteworthy features are the two columns on the façade, the stained-glass windows inside and the bell gable with its two impressive bells. Another landmark is the Chapel of Sant Llop. This small Romanesque church, perched at the top of a hill, has a central courtyard, reached via a staircase, where various community events are held.
Riells i Viabrea is surrounded by nature. Nestled at the foot of the Montseny Massif, the municipality boasts extensive holm oak, beech and oak forests, where walkers may well come across animals such as Eurasian jays, foxes, hedgehogs or moles
