Sant Julià del Llor i Bonmatí
The municipality of Sant Julià del Llor i Bonmatí is located close to the towns of Amer and Anglès, bordering on the county of Gironès. The two towns that form part of this municipality were joined together in February 1983, making it the youngest municipality in Catalonia.
The main landmark of the historical centre of Sant Julià del Llor is the impressive Pont Vell (Old Bridge), a recently restored Romanesque construction dating from the 13th / 14th century. The Church of Sant Julià del Llor, built in the pre-Romanesque style and dating from 1066, is another important heritage site. Other important historical attractions in the town include the Roman remains of La Cavorca or the 18th-century houses on Carrer Vell. The main landmarks of the hamlet of Bonmatí are the farmhouse Mas Bonmatí and its five-storey octagonal tower, the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception and the set of houses of the Colònia Bonmatí, an industrial model village.
The industrial past of the town is reflected in Colònia Bonmatí, where the old textile and paper factories harnessed the flow of the Ter River to power their machinery. These buildings are now used as workshops by woodworkers and artisans.
The landscape of Sant Julià del Llor i Bonmatí is quite flat, thanks to which there are plenty of family-friendly paths for enjoying sport. Furthermore, a section of the Girona-Olot Greenway crosses the area, which makes it very popular with hikers and cyclists.
