Municipal Museum of Tossa de Mar
The Municipal Museum of Tossa de Mar, located in the heart of the Vila Vella (Old Town), displays a selection of the archaeological materials from the Roman period found in the Ametllers Villa, such as pottery, coins and carved bone and ivory pieces, among others.
The most noteworthy element is the superb Vitalis polychrome mosaic, dating from the 4th century AD, which features a figure in the centre and bears the inscription Salvo Vitale, felix Turissa (If Vitalis is well, Turissa is happy). Vitalis was the owner of the villa at that time and Turissa was the name of the villa, a complex that eventually developed into the present-day town of Tossa.
