Church of Sant Esteve de Caldes
Observed from the outside, the three apses that form the chevet of the Church of Sant Esteve de Caldes (Caldes de Malavella), decorated with Lombard bands and a sawtooth frieze, perfectly reveal the Romanesque origins of the building, which can be dated to the 11th century. This chronology is corroborated by the earliest document in which it is mentioned, dating from 1053.
In fact, the entire structure of the church, with three naves and a bell tower, is Romanesque, but this fact is concealed to a large extent by a series of subsequent alterations, in particular the Renaissance-style main façade at the west end and most of the bell tower.
