In 1082, Count Ramon Berenguer II, the Towhead (so called because of his thick, white-blond hair) was murdered at a natural pool close to the Royal Way where it passes through the parish of Gaserans. Four years later, the Parish Church of Sant Llorenç was consecrated by the Bishop of Girona. The semicircular apse, the south wall with Lombard bands and most of the structure of the bell tower are original features of the church, whose construction had only just been completed when the assassination took place. Although significant alterations were made to the building in the 19th century, the Church of Gaserans is still able to transport us to the 12th century, a crucial period in the development of Catalonia, in which this small parish played its part.
