Church of Sant Martí de Riells
The Parish Church of Riells del Montseny has two great assets. One is its location in the heart of the Montseny Natural Park, overlooking the scattering of houses that make up the village. The other is that, despite the significant alterations to which the church has been subjected over the course of its existence, the most recent refurbishment (at the initiative of Father Pere Ribot, a remarkable man of letters and staunch defender of Catalonia who was the parish rector for many years) succeeded in giving prominence to what remained of its Romanesque features, which dated from the 12th century.
In this respect, the main feature to observe is the beautiful entrance, executed in a simple and harmonious Romanesque style, with the remarkable detail of the florally decorated capitals which crown the columns flanking the doorway.
